How do you demonstrate a robot's capabilities when its most interesting features are its movement, intelligence and ability to operate in environments that are difficult to film? More than that, how do you communicate these ideas, when they exist only in CAD drawings, STEP files, and simulations.
Robotics companies often have an unusual marketing problem. Their technology may be highly sophisticated, but the audience needs to understand its value within seconds. For Trakr, Hyve approached the film as a technical communication problem first and a visual-effects problem second. The objective was to create a visual narrative that could demonstrate the robot's capabilities without relying on lengthy technical explanations.
3D animation allowed Hyve to construct environments specifically around the story. Instead of being limited to a physical location, the robot could be placed into different industrial and warehouse scenarios, allowing its mobility and adaptability to become part of the narrative. The digital production also provided complete control over camera movement, lighting, scale, environment and robot behaviour.
The film focuses on application rather than simply product beauty. The robot becomes the protagonist moving through environments and situations that communicate its flexibility and potential. Motion graphics and interface elements were used to add technical information without turning the film into an engineering presentation.
The final film gave Addverb a visual product story capable of explaining Trakr to potential customers, partners and broader audiences. Instead of asking viewers to understand robotics through specifications, the film demonstrates the technology through movement, environment and application.
